The Creators of Footsteps Dance Studio
Michele and Nicole are the owners, directors and instructors of Footsteps Dance Studio. Combined they have over 60 years of dance and teaching experience. They each began dancing at age 3. They are classically trained in ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, lyrical and musical theater. Throughout their dance training they were honored to train with such artists as; Michelle Larkin, Gus Giordano, Thommie Walsh and Joe Lanteri. When each of them turned 7 their shared dream was to have their own dance studio. In June of 2000, their dream came ALIVE! Michele and Nicole believe in a hands on, organized, professionally ran operation. They instruct ages 2.5 year old to the adults, oversee all classes and are the directors of the competition companies. They provide diverse and up to date choreography, styles that are theatrical, classic and showy, classical and contemporary ballet, classical and trendy jazz, hip-hop from the east and west coasts. Every breath they take is Footsteps! Their love of life is to share their passion for dance with the dancers they instruct.
The Instructors at Footsteps Dance Studio
Lauren took her first dance class at the age of 3 and hasn’t stopped since. She has trained at various schools throughout the Twin Cities including, JAS Dance Studio, Danceworks, Continental Ballet, Metropolitan Ballet and Footsteps Dance Studio. She also studied with Savion Glover and Diane Walker. Lauren’s ballet performances include The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake and Giselle. While studying vocal performance at Arizona State University, Lauren continued her ballet training. She went on to receive a Music Business degree from Augsburg College, in Minneapolis. In addition to her extensive ballet training, Lauren has studied various styles in jazz, lyrical, modern, and hip hop.
Mariah started dancing at age 14 with Just For Kix, a competitive dance-line program, training in high kick and jazz funk. At sixteen, she joined Footsteps Dance Studio and expanded her dance training in ballet, jazz, modern, and lyrical. She then went on to obtain a minor in Dance at Hope College where she trained in ballet, modern, jazz, tap and some historical and social dance. In addition to teaching at Footsteps, Mariah is currently dancing with Innovative Productions, a local company.
Jon began his dance journey at the age of 3. He began his technical training at Monique School of Dance studying ballet, tap, jazz and hip hop. He transitioned into competitive dance, expanded his training into lyrical and contemporary at Footsteps Dance Studio when he was 12. Throughout his competitive journey he was awarded multiple scholarships to NUVO Dance Convention, including Senior Male Break-Out Artist 2013. Jon achieved multiply high scores from various national competitions, received special recognition for his “Perfect Partnering” – StarQuest International Performing Arts Competition along with Power Pak – Starpower Talent Competition and awarded Mr. Power Pak 2013. Jon has been an instructor at Footsteps since 2013, and has been student teaching and coaching since he was 15. He received a degree in Marketing from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.
She walked into our doors 17 years ago and has made a footprint in our lives. She is classically trained in ballet and pointe, technically and competitively trained in jazz, tap, lyrical, contemporary, highkick and hip hop. She has been a competitive dancer since age 10 and has achieved multi-high score awards and outstanding technique recognition from various national dance competitions. Alexa was also awarded Power Pak – Starpower Talent Competition and received a scholarship. In addition to her competitive studio training, she found time to be on the Burnsville Blazettes. Throughout her years at Footsteps, she has been involved with student teaching multiple classes with a variety of ages, abilities and dance styles. Being classically trained in ballet, Alexa was chosen to be the lead role “Odette” in Swan Lake 2013. She is currently attending college in pursuit of Pharmaceutical Medicine.
Simone began her dance training at the age of 6. She has studied in jazz, lyrical, modern, tap and ballet, with an extensive training and performing background in hip hop. Her hip hop styles and training include; House, Waacking, Breaking, Popping, Locking, Krump and Old School Hip Hop. She has performed throughout the Twin Cities since 2001, gracing the stage from Patrick’s Cabaret to the Ordway. Simone performs with several local hip hop company’s such as Collective, Illmatic and SHE and all female group.
Shannon has been dancing since age 2. She studied at The Dance Shoppe, currently known as Summit Dance Shoppe, for many years. During high school, she danced on the kick line and was the captain of the cheer/dance team. During college at U of M Mankato, she danced on the Mankato Performance Team (MPT) and the Maverick Dance Team. This team took a national title on 1997. Shannon continued to dance and teach in a variety of settings after college. When starting a family, she began doing childcare, incorporating dance into the daily routine. Shannon has combined her love of dance and children into her teaching at Footsteps.
Emily began her dance journey at the age of 3. She has trained with Monique School of Dance and Footsteps Dance Studio. She studied ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical and hip hop. She joined the competitive dance company at Footsteps Dance Studio and achieved top awards. Emily has performed in the Nutcracker with the Twin Cities Ballet Company and the Moscow Ballet Company. Currently attending Inver Hills Community College, Emily is studying Emergency Medical Services. She will then transfer to the U of M for her degree in Biochemistry and Pre-Med.
